Card Swipe Time Clock for Employees
If you want employees clocking in with a card or badge, you have come to the right place. TimeTrak offers badge reader time clocks that make punching in fast, simple, and accurate. No PINs, no smartphones, no hassle.
Our most popular card-based option is the RFID proximity time clock, which lets employees clock in with a quick tap of a badge or key fob. No physical swipe required.

How a Badge Reader Time Clock Works
Each employee is assigned a badge encoded with a unique ID. When they arrive, leave, or take a break, they tap or swipe at the clock. The reader identifies the employee and logs the punch instantly. The data transmits to your software dashboard over WiFi in real time.
The system automatically selects the correct punch type based on the employee’s current status. There is nothing to select or remember. The employee presents their badge and walks away.
RFID Badge Readers: The Modern Card Swipe
Today’s card reader time clocks use RFID proximity technology rather than a physical magnetic swipe. The employee holds their badge or fob near the reader and the clock registers the punch instantly, with no contact and no wear on the card.
Benefits over traditional magnetic stripe:
- No card wear or reader head degradation over time
- Faster punch — tap and go, no swipe alignment needed
- Works with key fobs in addition to cards

Yes. Punches are stored locally on the device if the network connection is temporarily unavailable. Once connectivity is restored, the data uploads automatically to your dashboard.
Lost badges are deactivated in the software immediately. The employee cannot punch in with a deactivated badge. A replacement badge is then issued and assigned to that employee in the system.
In many cases, yes. If your employees already carry 125kHz or HID proximity badges, those may be compatible with TimeTrak’s RFID badge reader. Contact us to confirm compatibility before purchasing.
A traditional swipe card time clock reads a magnetic stripe on the back of a card, similar to a credit card reader. An RFID time clock reads a proximity badge wirelessly when held near the reader. RFID is faster, requires no physical contact, and has no moving parts to wear out.
A card swipe time clock is a hardware device that identifies employees using a badge or card to record clock-in and clock-out times. Modern card reader time clocks typically use RFID proximity technology, where the employee taps a badge near the reader rather than physically swiping it.
